15 Ways to get rid of your Dark Lips

Pink lips add charm to a person’s face. These naturally attractive lips don’t require regular application of lip balm or lipstick to look beautiful.
But several factors such as sun’s UV rays, smoking, caffeine and age can affect our lips and darken them. Fortunately, there are natural remedies to lighten your dark lips. Here is a list of remedies that can lighten dark lips naturally.

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids which will keep your lips hydrated, and look healthy. And when your lips are hydrated, it’s only natural that lips look soft and pink.


Using your fingertips, take a little coconut oil and spread it evenly on your lips. You can do this several times during the day and also before going to bed at night.

2. Honey

Honey is an amazing natural ingredient, which can be used to treat dark lips. It not only clears your lips but also softens them.


Apply honey on your lips and let it act overnight, every day. Continue this practice for a couple of weeks and you will notice a change in the color of your lips.

3. Lemon

Lemon can be used in several ways to lighten dark lips.It is a natural bleaching agent. All citrus fruits act as a melanin inhibitor, but lemon is the best among them.


The easiest way to use lemon is to cut a lemon in half and gently rub the juicy part on the lips every night before bedtime. Simply rinse your lips in the morning and repeat the routine daily.

4. Almond Oil

Almond oil has emollient properties. They help you soften and rejuvenate your skin. And its properties help you lighten lips.


Take one or two drops of almond oil on one finger and massage this on the lips for one or two minutes. Leave it overnight.

5. Sugar

Sugar serves as an excellent scrub for exfoliating the lips and also helps remove unwanted dead skin.


Take three spoons of sugar and mix with two spoons of butter to make a thick paste. Use this mixture on your lips to peel it off. Like your skin, your lips also need to be peeled regularly. Try rubbing this two or three times a week for lighter lips.

6. Glycerin

Glycerin helps prevent and treat dryness on your lips. Dryness can cause pigmented lips. At the same time, glycerin helps prevent sun damage. This will help you maintain lip moisture and remove dark lips.


Apply glycerin on your lips using cotton before bed. Repeat every night until you get results. Rinse in the morning.

7. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contains a flavonoid called aloesin. These polyphenolic compounds inhibit the process of pigmentation in the skin, thereby causing lip lightening. Aloe also rejuvenates the skin and provides it with healthy nutrition.


Apply a thin layer of fresh Aloe Vera gel on the lips and let it dry. Rinse with lukewarm water.

8. Beetroot

This deep purple ingredient helps cleanse and brighten the lips. Beet juice has a natural agent, which lightens the lips.


Apply the juice on your lips for effective results. Rinse with lukewarm water after 10-15 mins.

9.  Cucumber

Daily application of cucumber juice will rejuvenate your lips and also help lighten them . It also soothes and nourishes the skin.


Blend half a cucumber to make fresh cucumber juice. Dip a cotton ball in juice and apply the juice to your lips. Leave on for at least 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Dip a cotton ball in rose water and apply it to the lips. Rub the cotton gently on the lips 3-4 times. Leave the rose water on and go to sleep.

Try milk cream with a little turmeric and apply this mixture to your lips. Continue this ritual several times a day and night for effective results.

Mix 1 tablespoon pomegranate seeds,1 teaspoon rose water,1 tablespoon cream into paste. Gently massage the paste into your lips for about three minutes, then rinse your lips with cool water. Repeat daily.

There are lots of oils that help lighten the lips. Olive oil is probably the most common ingredient in our kitchen which helps.


Before going to bed, massage a few drops of olive oil to your lips. Repeat every day. Do not rinse in the morning.

14. Strawberry

Strawberry can also help lighten your lips.


Make a paste by mixing it together with 3 medium-size strawberries and 1 teaspoons of baking soda. Apply this paste gently to your lips before going to sleep, then rinse with cold water the next morning.

15. Baking soda

Baking soda helps exfoliate the lips and remove dead skin cells. This remedy helps only if the cause of dark lips is accumulated dead cells.


Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and water to prepare thick paste. Apply it on your lips and rub with gentle circular movements. Rinse with water.
